Come usare "proprio"

Proprio is one is those words that you'll hear again and again in Italian conversations.



PROPRIO can indicate:

• 'truly, really, exactly...', e.g.

- proprio così: exactly!, just like that!
- proprio adesso: right now
- proprio allora: just then
- proprio come: just like, just as
- sei proprio simpatico: you're really nice
- non lo so proprio: I really don't know
- non mi piace proprio: I don't like it at all

• an impersonal third person, e.g.

- la propria vita: one's life
- i propri amici: one's friends
- a proprio rischio: at one's own risk

• 'own', e.g.

- produzione propria: own production
- lavoro in proprio: I work on my own

• 'characteristic' or 'typical', e.g.

- il clima umido è proprio di questa regione: a wet climate is typical of this region

• colloquial expressions, e.g.

- essere / sentirsi a proprio agio: to be / feel at ease
- amor proprio: self-esteem
